Hello Everyone! Wishing you all a belated Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
I made Mawa Modaks for the first time this Ganesh Chaturthi. Great news is that it requires only three ingredients and you are all set. It’s offered to Lord Ganesha during the Ganesha festival and is said to be His favourite sweet. You would find Modak shops near most of the Ganesha temples, especially in Maharashtra, India.
Here are the easy steps;
Preparation Time 2 minutes
Cooking Time 15-20 minutes
Makes 8-10 Modaks
Main Ingredients Mawa/Khoya (Dried Whole Milk/Thickened Milk/Milk Solids)
Level Of Cooking Medium
- Mawa/Khoya (Dried Whole Milk/Thickened Milk) 1 cup (250 grams)
- Sugar less than 1/2 cup (120-130 grams)
- Green Cardamom 2 (crushed seeds)
In a pan, heat mawa/khoya (dried whole milk/thickened milk) with sugar and crushed green cardamom seeds. Keep stirring for about 15 mins on low to medium heat (the mixture will start bubbling). Keep the mixture aside to cool for 7-8 hours or overnight.
Make small lemon-size balls of the mixture and start giving them the shape of a modak with your hands or just put small portions in a modak mould and press till they are evenly lined from all sides.
I am taking these Mawa Modaks (Dried Milk Dumplings) to Angie’s Fiesta Friday #88, co-hosted by Julie @ Hostess At Heart and Liz @ Spades, spatulas, & spoons. Come and join us there to enjoy this and other delectable dishes. 🙂
