Talk about ‘Chicken Burger’ and most of us start salivating, don’t we? Well, I surely do 🙂 Especially when it has a crispy and juicy chicken patty (tikki), lots of greens and a slice of cheddar cheese. This Shack Saturday relish ‘Chicken Burger’ with your family and friends.
The chicken patties in these burgers are fried in olive oil to make them healthier. You can choose to deep fry or shallow fry. This recipe is going to give a serious competition to the Chickens Burgers you get in McDonald’s or KFC. You can add your choice of salad/herb to this Chicken Burger. It’s a hit with kids and elders alike. If you are a vegetarian, then you can try Aloo Tikki (Spiced Potato Patty) Burger by following this recipe and using Aloo Tikki (Spiced Potato Patty) in place of Chicken Patty (Tikki).
Here’s the recipe;

Main Ingredients Minced Chicken & Burger Bun/Bread
Course Tea-time Snack or Main-course
Level Of Cooking Medium
For the chicken patties (tikkis):
- Minced Chicken 300 grams
- Breadcrumbs 2 cups
- Chopped Onion 1 large
- Grated Ginger 1/2 inch
- Grated Garlic 2 cloves
- Fresh Milk 1/2 cup
- Green Chillies 2 chopped (you may have more or less as per your preference)
- Black Pepper Powder 1 teaspoon
- Cooking Oil Sufficient for deep frying 8 Chicken Patties (Tikkis) Medium Size (you can increase or decrease the size as per your preference)
- Salt to taste
For the burger:
(You can adjust the ingredients as per your liking/preference)
- Burger Buns 8 (halved) – I used buns with sesame seeds
- Lettuce 100 grams or more (as per your liking)
- Sliced Cucumber 1 medium
- Sliced Tomatoes 2 medium
- Sliced Onions 2
- Tomato Chilli Sauce or Red Chilli and Garlic Chutney/Dip 1/2 cup
- Mayonnaise 1/2 cup
- Cheddar Cheese (or any other cheese of your choice) Slices 8
- Salt a little to sprinkle on salad while assembling the burger
Mix the minced chicken with 1/4 breadcrumbs and all the chicken patty (tikki) ingredients except oil.
Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and make balls out of each. (Grease your hands with some cooking oil while making the chicken balls as this will help make smooth balls and the mix will not stick to your hands.) Flatten the balls into round patties (tikkis). Take a dinner plate, put the remaining breadcrumbs on it. Put the chicken patties one by one and cover with breadcrumbs from all sides.
Heat oil in a pan for frying the patties. Put 3-5 patties (depending on the size of your pan) in oil and cook till the bottom surface turns golden brown. Then flip each of them upside down and cook until the second side also turns golden brown. (You can keep on turning them after intervals to have a nice golden brown colour. Cook on medium to low flame to ensure the chicken is cooked well.)
Transfer the prepared Chicken Patties on a kitchen tissue and let it absorb the excess oil. While the chicken patty/tikki is still hot, put a cheddar cheese (or a cheese of your choice) slice on top. To assemble the burger, put mayonnaise on one side of the burger bun/bread and tomato chilli sauce or red chilli garlic chutney/dip on the other side. Then, put some lettuce, a few slices of cucumber, onion and tomato. Sprinkle a little salt (optional). Put some more mayonnaise (optional). Then the cheesy chicken patty/tikki. Lastly, put the other half of the burger bun/bread on top and seal it with a toothpick. (Optionally you can toast the burger bun/bread too.)
Serve this juicy and crispy Chicken Burger hot with a chilled drink. It makes a wonderful evening snack or a hearty dinner. You can increase the size of your chicken patties/tikkis to make the burgers more filling.
It is a fantastic recipe for parties too. Just slice the salad beforehand and fry and keep the chicken patties/tikkis aside 30 minutes before your party or the time when you have to serve and serve your delicious Chicken Burger in the least time possible.
